11 July, 2012 Soo Lock pictures

Here is a series of pictures showing the Stewart J. Cort transiting the Soo Locks.  This ship is typical of some of the larger Great Lakes freighters that pass through the locks every day.  Also, a few pictures of a tour boat that passed through as well.

10 July, 2012 T-falls and Whitefish Bay

Today we went sightseeing in the UP (Upper Peninsula).  We went to the Tahquamenon Falls.  They have an Upper and Lower fall and you can hike to them both, it is about 8 miles round trip.  We went to both but opted to drive.  The girls enjoyed it but did not care for the steps (94), so Sam and I had to carry them up and down them.  The weather was awesome, highs in the seventies.

After the Falls we went to Whitefish Point to check out the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, which is along the shore of Lake Superior.  This is where the Edmund Fitzgerald went down.  The beach was sandy, but also has rocks that were the pretty and smooth.  Not much in the way of shells, but I could start collecting rocks.  Also, Sam wanted me to mention how wonderful he is.
