I spent the last
day in the Detroit area going down memory lane. The town I grew up in has
changed quite a bit. The old shacks around Walled Lake have been mostly torn
down, and replaced with large half million dollar homes. My high school is still there and virtually
unchanged, but our sister high school has been enlarged and remodeled. The county has also built a third high school
in our area.
I drove past the
old Wixom Ford plant where my father worked for31 years. It’s been closed now for more than 20
years. I remember riding past the plant
as a child, and being amazed at all the cars parked in the huge lot. This plant
produced the Lincoln and Thunderbird lines. It’s sad to see the plant now quiet, with
grass growing up through the cracks in the parking lot.
This morning we
woke to a little excitement. The wind
and rain had kicked up across the lake at about 4:30, and was rocking the
Wildcat pretty good. It was a fast moving storm and was out of the area pretty
quickly. I had planned on rolling out of
New Hudson around 8am, but we ended up over sleeping. I stuck my head out of the camper around 7:30
to survey the storms damage. I immediately noticed a huge black plume of smoke
coming from the back of the camp ground.
I grabbed the camera and went to check it out. By then the fire trucks were speeding through
the campground. I took these pictures of
a park model that had caught on fire.
The rumor going around was their AC unit had caught the house on
fire. Everyone got out and no one was
hurt.
