19 June, 2012 Mohican River Canoe Trip

We took a canoe trip down the Mohican river this morning.  The trip went about 7 miles and ended at our camp ground.  I’m happy to report my bride stayed high and dry, and only sustained one injury.  A horse fly bite on one of her big toes.  She’s been whining and limping around ever since.  I hope we don’t have to amputate.  We plan on making it into Amish country either later today or tomorrow.   

17 June 2012, Wally World Resort Ohio

We arrived here this afternoon, not really knowing what to expect.  As we drove up we were pleasantly surprised how nice this place was.  Wally World is our home Coast to Coast park.  We have been a member here for several years, but today was our first time visiting.  We are scheduled to be here for two week.  It will be nice to be off the road for and extended period of time.

18 June,2012    Abbies Mohican adventure started the moment we pulled up.  This place if full of squirrels, chipmunks, big crows and a constant flow of folks floating down the river.  The temp here is in probably in the low 70’s this morning and a little overcast.  The forecast for this week is good with not much rain predicted.  We don’t have Wi-fi in this park so our closest connection is a McDonalds 5 miles down the road.  We plan on checking email at least once a day down there.

Jefferson, Ohio layover

     We pulled into the Mill Brook Resort just south of Jefferson Ohio on the 16^th for an overnighter.  The park was very well kept, and sat on an expansive piece of pasture land with a small fishing lake.   Some of the parks features included a large heated indoor pool, game room, put-put golf, basketball, water volleyball, beach volleyball, and horseshoe pits.  A nice feature they offered for the Coast to Coast folks were easy access pull through sites.   Areas that could be improved were the bathrooms facilities.  The main washrooms were all the way in the front of the complex, and the satellite toilets close to the camping areas were little more than out houses with flush toilets.  Additionally, there were no cable TV or sewer line connections at the sites.  A dump station was available on the way out.  Also, the night we stayed there the Wi-fi was not operational. I would rate this park a 7 out of 10.  A perfect place to lay over for the night.

     After we set up we went in to Jefferson for dinner.  We stopped at a small Itallian resturaunt called Josephine’s.  The food was awesome.

Buffalo Ny layover

We pulled in to the Three Valley’s Resort in Holland Ny on the 15^th of June.  Holland is just south of Buffalo.  If this was not the worst campground I’ve ever been to its close.   I don’t believe there was a level sight on the property.  The first set of spots we were given were on the side of a hill.  We reserved two pull through sites, but later found out they didn’t have any pull throughs in the park.  A quick tour of the park revealed lots of ugly full timer rigs with lots of old junk laying around.  We had booked Three Valley’s for 2 day, but left after our first.  I would rate this a 3 out of 10.

Bass Lake New York Layover

     We crossed over the boarder back into the states on 81 going over the 1000 islands area.  This was really a beautiful place.  We rolled in to Bass Lake in the early afternoon.  Bass Lake was another really nice park that we could have spent several days at.  They put us in spots close to the pool, restaurant and washrooms.  Everything in the park was clean and well kept.  The staff was nice and helpful.  The lake was very nice and had its own private boat launch.  They did not offer cable or Wi-fi, and our spots did not have sewer hook ups.  I would give Bass Lake a 7 out of 10, and would go back there again to lay over, or spend a few days

Montreal Layover

13 June,2012  Camping Alouette Resort, Montreal Canada.  We arrived here late in the afternoon.  The trip in from New Brunswick was brutal to say the least.  The first several hours we encountered miserable rain and fog, with miles of narrow bumpy roads and large sections of road construction.  And then our directions were not correct and we got off at the wrong exit and got lost in one of the suburban areas.  Never fun being lost pulling a fifth wheel down neighborhood streets with low trees and nowhere to turn around.  Oh and not to mention all the signs are in French and no one speaks English.  We did however find one young girl that new a little English and was able to put us in the right direction. (kinda)  It turned out if we had gone down to the next exit, we would have seen the campground sign and been fine. 

     We finally made it to the park.  Woodalls rates this park very highly, and it was in fact very nice.  Our pull thru’s were very nice and level with full hook ups. Wi-fi was available for an extra $5 a day. ( No cable TV) This park was a little out of our normal budget at $41 a night.  Note:  they collect a $20 deposit on their gate entry card.  If you plan on leaving before 8am you will need to turn this card back in the night before, as the office doesn’t open until 8am.  We were ready to pull out at 730 that morning but had to wait until the office opened.  They did have a nice little restaurant at the gate where we had breakfast until the office opened.  I would rate this park a 8 out of 10.  I would go back there again.  However, Montreal is on the bottom of my list for return trips.   

12 June 2012 (Riverside Iroquois RV Park, Edmundston, New Brunswick Canada)

We left Nova Scotia this morning in route to Montreal.  We drove approximately 300 miles and laid over for the night.  We stopped at the Riverside (Iroquois) RV Park in Edmundston, New Brunswick.  We had tried to book reservations a few days prior, but were unable to do so over the phone.  The recorded message from their office said that reservations were not necessary and that plenty of sites were available.  Upon our arrival we met one of the host campers mowing the grass that helped direct us to our sites.  A short time later after we had set up, a nice lady showed up and took care of our paperwork and took our money.  Both of the staff members we dealt with were very nice and accommodating.
     The park was not large, I guessing about 65 sites or so. They had about 6 pull through sites with electric, water and WI-FI only.  I believe the back in sites all had full hook ups.  There was no cable TV available in the park.  A dump station was available on the way out.  They had their own sewer tube attached so all you needed to do was hook it to your rig and dump. The sites were spacious, especially the pull throughs.  There were numerous spots that backed up to the creek.  If we had spent more time here we would have gotten one of those for sure. The power, water and Wi-Fi were adequate and we had no issues with any of them.  They had portable type wash rooms and showers that were very well maintained and clean.  The washrooms had music piped in.  Washers and dryers were also available for $2.75 a load (total for both).
     There were no ugly park model campers, or any full timers in this park.  The camp ground was well maintained and was a pleasant over night stay for us.  I would come back here again.
