This morning we
went back to the Amish village of Berlin.
We started off by visiting Java Joe’s coffee house for a quick capo and
some free Wi-Fi. After that we split up
and shopped for several hours. Berlin
has the typical touristy type places, some stores selling things that have
nothing to do with the Amish. But, the
majority sold items made by the Amish folks.
There were lots of places to buy homemade scented candles, furniture and
quilts. I spent most of my time in a
three story antique store that had an unbelievable amount of cool and unusual
stuff. At the end of the day, neither of
us had bought anything. I think there
was just too much to look at.
Looking down the
busy streets of Berlin, I was amazed to see all of the Amish Carriages blended
in with the other vehicles. None of them were holding up traffic as you might
imagine, they were moving down the streets as fast as the cars. And there wasn’t just one or two, they were
everywhere. The majority of them were stopping
at a German supply store, probably an equivalent to an Amish Wal-Mart. They would just pull their horse and carriage
up to the front, hop out and go on in and shop.
Meanwhile the horses would just hang out, and visit with their buddy’s
in the parking lot.
